U3A Hauraki
U3A (University of the Third Age) is an international organisation, started in NZ in 1989, now with over 80 groups. The purpose is for people in the third stage of their life journey (post career or family) who want to keep their minds active and make connections with like-minded people. The focus is on lifelong learning and active participation in interest groups to promote social connection and friendship.
The Hauraki group organizes a monthly speaker series on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10am to 12noon. Stimulating topics are presented in a friendly environment and guests are very welcome. Members also participate in a variety of small-scale interest groups. Currently these include Current Affairs, Genealogy, Organic Gardening, Women in History, Creative Writing and Needlecraft.
